It is easy to take bees for granted.
We see them moving from flower to flower throughout spring and summer, yet their role in the natural world is extraordinary. Bees pollinate many of the plants, trees and crops that surround us, supporting ecosystems that we all depend on.
The more I learn about bees, the more I appreciate the quiet work they do.
Their relationship with the landscape feels like a reminder that everything is connected. Wildflowers, gardens, orchards and woodlands all benefit from their presence. Without them, our natural world would look very different.
My appreciation for bees is also what first drew me to beeswax.
Beeswax is one of nature's most remarkable materials. It has been used for centuries in homes for candles, balms and practical household objects. It is renewable, biodegradable and carries a natural beauty that requires very little improvement.
Unlike many modern materials, beeswax feels honest. Its colour varies with the season and the flowers the bees have visited. No two batches are exactly the same.
When creating beeswax candles, I am always drawn to this simplicity. The gentle scent of honey, the warm glow of the flame and the natural character of the wax all reflect the beauty of working with natural materials.
At Goldrick, many of the products I make are inspired by this same idea: choosing materials that have a story, a purpose and a connection to nature.
In a fast-moving world, there is something comforting about surrounding ourselves with objects made from simple, time-honoured materials.
For me, beeswax will always be one of them.
